bored and feel like blogging but dunno what to blog..cos some things are just 2 sensitive..just in case..anyway, here goes..as always, the queen of self-entertainment..*hahaha :p discovered from checking out a weird phrase in my japanese studies reading..

Weird Japanese Phrases
makeinu - literally "loser-dog", refers to unmarried single women in japan over 30 years of age
kachiinu - literally "winner-dog", refers to women who have gotten married?

and it all started with a book by Sakai Junko, called "Makeinu no Toboe" (The Grumbling of Losers) interestingly, these women take pride in the apparently derogoratory term. are they really losers? read on..review of the book, and a mention in a blog post..

talking about which..the japanese princess sayako is makeinu no more! unfortunately, it also means she's princess no more! yikes..fortunately, she has found someone to take care of her :) read here and see here for photos! somehow, she looks so innocent, so young..reminds me somewhat of the female lead in Tokyo Cinderella, er, if u know what i'm talking about..*haha..yah it's an ancient japanese drama but i still love that japanese song "meguriai" by chage and aska :)

kurisumasu keeki - literally, "christmas cake", refers to unmarried women over 25 years old

i was stumped when i first heard this..what has christmas cake gotta do with unmarried women (again)? well, apparently, christmas cake has to be eaten by christmas, the 25th, after that it starts becoming stale and no one wants it anymore.. ("*boohoo, eat me, eat me..") some explanation here..includes her life on the JET programme! *wow..

kintaro-ame - literally, "kintaro sweet", some kind of candy where, no matter where you cut, you get the same face

basically, this is used to describe people who are inflexible and rigid about rules and no creativity, or so i figured from my japanese studies reading. No Mattter Where You Cut, the Same Face Appears yup, basically, it's given out during japanese weddings, apparently the sweets are made in the likeness of the bride and bridegroom. very cute! but..imagine all those people eating ur face..*argh..haha, but cute lah! :) samples here and a traditional shop making kintaro-ame
